The one about Tommy Riddle’s past. After five books where we only got to know that Voldy is a mad, powerful racist, we finally get to know his road there better.
The first part of this one is a bland The Name of the Wind fanfiction. Nothing more.
Behold: my first five star-read of 2021. ‚Best Served Cold‘ features an expertly constructed plot from the master of character writing. It’s a wild mixture of The Count of Monte Cristo and Kill Bill, a revenge story par excellence, graced with Abercrombie’s fleshed-out anti-heros: his best book yet.
Unpopular opinion time once again.
Second read of the year, second highly anticipated series of the year, second disappointment. And this time it’s definitely not a thing of taste: in my opinion, Malice, a book I’ve heard mostly gushing reviews about, is just mediocre. Obvious plot, boring characters, terrible tropes I hate.
An absolutely groundbreaking masterpiece. Its influence on modern fantasy can hardly be overestimated. Amazing twists and characters… and winter is still not here.
A predictable Urban Fantasy in a Hong Kongish setting that reveals what’s gonna come right at the start by its choice of narrators. Technically well-written but without a soul.
Unpopular opinion time once again – here’s what I think about the Inheritance Cycle aka Star Wars with Dragons. Basically: it’s a good intro into the genre for kids. And that’s it.
(English version below) Eine sinn- und handlungslose, ständig mäandernde Groteske, gefüllt mit viel zu vielen Informationen und Details, ohne Fortschritt und mitreißende Charaktermotivation.
YES! I loved it! Don’t look at me like that, I was so friggin afraid that I wouldn’t enjoy it. In a way, reading the book itself made me feel high stakes since I was so, so, so afraid that it would disappoint me as much as The Way of Kings did – and that didn’t happen!
A.W.E.S.O.M.E. „Feeding Frenzy“ is a perfectly-paced mixture of urban fantasy and comedy, filled with hilarious banter between its two main protagonists. Summer and Ophelia are monster hunters, but their work is more complicated than Geralt of Rivia’s in The Witcher.
