Review: BEST SERVED COLD (FIRST LAW WORLD #4)

Behold: my first five star-read of 2021. ‚Best Served Cold‘ features an expertly constructed plot from the master of character writing. It’s a wild mixture of The Count of Monte Cristo and Kill Bill, a revenge story par excellence, graced with Abercrombie’s fleshed-out anti-heros: his best book yet.

Review: MALICE (THE FAITHFUL AND THE FALLEN #1) by John Gwynne

Unpopular opinion time once again.
Second read of the year, second highly anticipated series of the year, second disappointment. And this time it’s definitely not a thing of taste: in my opinion, Malice, a book I’ve heard mostly gushing reviews about, is just mediocre. Obvious plot, boring characters, terrible tropes I hate.

Review: THE FINAL EMPIRE (MISTBORN #1)

YES! I loved it! Don’t look at me like that, I was so friggin afraid that I wouldn’t enjoy it. In a way, reading the book itself made me feel high stakes since I was so, so, so afraid that it would disappoint me as much as The Way of Kings did – and that didn’t happen!

Review: SHADOW AND BONE (SHADOW AND BONE #1)

So, I read it again. When I first read it, my head was still filled with the brilliance of Crooked Kingdom, so I guess I wasn’t very…objective. Anyway, I read it again, and I have to say: it’s not as good as the duology, but it’s still great.

Review: A REAPER AT THE GATES (AN EMBER IN THE ASHES #3)

No, it’s true. This isn’t a mistake. I haven’t had some sort of fit that made me miss that fifth star. I also didn’t sneeze so hard that I missed the fourth star. I’ve really, out of the dephts of my conscience and heart, given one of Sabaa Tahir’s books only three stars.
